An objective describes something to be achieved in the future. The essence of an objective is that it defines what is wanted without describing how this is going to be achieved.
Without objectives people do not know where to invest their time or resources, and they can drift in an uncoordinated way. When objectives are unclear, it is impossible to make effective plans and people will not be committed to action. Despite the obvious importance of objectives many people find it difficult to set them.
